We invite you to come out and stay fit, by running or walking in part to help support food allergy research, education and awareness.
Your Participation
Funds raised from the Food Allergy 5k Run/Walk will be donated to The Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN). FAAN is the nation's leading nonprofit patient advocacy organization which serves as a link between food allergy patients and others. FAAN provides education, and builds awareness through their participation in research studies. They also work with policymakers in regards to food labeling and the management of food allergies in schools, camps, airlines and restaurants.
The Facts
Over 12 million prople in this country suffer from food allergies, and the majority are school-aged children. Food allergy is a growing public health and safety concern in our nation, and scientists are reporting that food allergy diagnoses have doubled over the past decade. There is no cure for food allergies and strict avoidance of the allergy-causing food is the only way to prevent a reaction. Food allergy is also the leading cause of anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction) outside the hospital setting.
Community
Participation will only increase awareness and the amount of contributions. This in turn will benefit a worthy cause that affects many of the children and adults around us.
